Kheerganga-The Land of Myths

Image
May 2015 After submitting my training report and facing my teachers for the last time, my engineering was finally over. It was time to face the real world that everyone talked about. So,  Me and my regular partners in crime decided to visit our beloved mountains before we set forth and try to find our place in the godforsaken rat race. The place we were visiting, this time, was Kheerganga. A place surrounded by myths and folklore of gods visiting and staying there for centuries. If it was good enough for the gods I guessed we mortals would have fancied it as well. We took a bus around 7 p.m. from Hoshiarpur and left for Manali. To reach Manikaran and beyond we had to get off at Bhuntar(Kullu). We reached Bhuntar in the morning around 5. It was my first time visiting this part of Himachal. The bus services at Bhuntar start at 6 a.m. We hopped on the first bus that arrived and reached Manikaran sahib. Then, from there we took another local bus to Barshain...

'Chasing angels or fleeing demons, go to the mountains -Jeffrey Rasley I had always had this affinity towards mountains. Just the thought of enjoying the thin air and the beauty of it all, is a reason enough for me to visit the valleys. I woke up to scenery so beautiful, that it felt like waking up into another dream altogether. Rejuvenated by a good night’s sleep, we prepared ourselves for the best leg of the journey. We got ready, had breakfast and then went to visit the Tabo Monastery. It is supposedly the oldest, continuously running monastery in all of the Himalayas. The 'stupa' there was the most beautifully embellished I have seen till now. Stupas generally represent the enlightened mind of the Buddha. One of the symbolic meanings is that they represent the five elements: the square base represents the earth, the round dome is for water, the cone-shape is fire, the canopy is the air and the volume of the stupa is space. Stupas are often used to store relic...

I have always been a mountain person. i don't know why is that and never tried to reason it. The other day, while talking to a friend about this, made me wonder. what is it about these peaks that i am always drawn towards them. I mean in a country like ours, with such varied terrain , all i wish to do is sit on a mountain top and just gaze into space. These ranges enchanted me the very first time i laid my eyes on them, then there was no turning back. I kept dreaming of visiting the white ones , the enormous ones that make you question your existence. Guess i was in luck when a friend of mine came up with an idea of visiting Spiti (Himachal) and my answer to whether i want to go on not, was a reflex.YES!!  and then it began.. the best thing that has happened to me till now. 12th april 2014, my best buddies(lucky, aman, manik, devyansh, akshay, deepak and nikhil ) began from hoshiarpur(punjab), where my college is, and reached Chandigarh in the morning to pick me up. we had book...

It all started with a crush. YES!! a silly infatuation in 9th standard.Mid of that year had this opportunity to go on a school trip to mussoorie (uttarakhand,India) and i heard that that girl had already signed up for it so i said to myself  "dude you have to go" .all i wanted was to start a conversation with her and somehow speak my heart out .So i signed up for it as well. It was the first time in my life that i was leaving the safety of my city and visiting a place i had only seen on a map. I packed the best t-shirts and that ''cool" jacket that every guy in their school days had(don't believe me ? ask em). I don't know why i am mentioning this but my mother made me eat curd sugar before i left because its India. i convinced myself that this would increase my chances with that girl. yes that girl was my only focus.so in the morning we boarded the bus from school and the journey began. my eyes were searching for her only.."ahhh there she i...
